The LGBT community in Los Angeles is preparing for a Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday like no other. The Here to Stay Coalition and Jordan/Rustin Coalition are asking gay and lesbian folks to join them for the Martin Luther King Jr. Kingdom Day Parade in Leimert Park.
The parade, which honors Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., takes place on Monday, January 17, at 11 a.m. For more information on participating in the parade with the LGBT groups (or to help make signs on Saturday), contact Andre at email@example.com or Here to Stay Coalition at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’d like to encourage you to share Bayard Rustin’s story on this Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. He was a mentor to MLK and was instrumental in organizing the March on Washington. He was also openly gay and a fierce advocate for gay rights. Below is a preview of this exception documentary “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin.” Read more about Bayard Rustin here.
The mission of the Barbara Jordan / Bayard Rustin Coalition (Jordan Rustin Coalition or JRC) is to empower Black same-gender loving, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and families in Greater Los Angeles, to promote equal marriage rights and to advocate for fair treatment of everyone without regard to race, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
