Do openly gay black men suffer more from depression than other gay men?  NY City News Service takes an in-depth look at the issue, profiling the recent suicide of Joseph Jefferson saying it was more complicated than anti-gay bullying.

After all, Joseph – who was only 26 when he passed away in October – was a graduate of Harvey Milk High School. He was a gay rights and HIV/AIDS activist who worked at Gay Men of African Descent.  Is depression a deeper problem for gay black men because of homophobia and racism within both the gay and black communities?
