Today, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) will announce the winners for their Salute to Excellence Awards.  NoMoreDownLow.TV,  received it’s first-ever nomination in the “Digital Media: Interactive Feature” category. Other nominees in the category include NPR’s “The Highwaymen,”  and Huffington Post Live’s “Nothing to Be Ashamed Of.”

Other noteworthy black LGBT journalists nominated include “Columns by LZ Granderson” on CNN and “Maya Rupert’s Huffington Post Blog” for the National Center for Lesbian Rights. They are competing against each other in the in “Digital Media Commentary/Weblog” category.

The nominated episode of NoMoreDownLow.TV features the LGBT black community’s reaction to President Obama’s decision to support gay marriage, LGBT couples adopting, a feature on Cleo Manago & comedian Ranier Pollard. It was first posted in July 2012.

“We’re very proud of our show. It’s been a labor of love for nearly four years now and our goal is to continue to tell black LGBT stories that you simply cannot find anywhere else,” said executive producer Earnest Winborne, who is in Orlando for the awards ceremony.

Winborne is a 36-year veteran television producer and director.  He has worked as an associate producer with “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and as producer and field director for “The View.”  For the last 15-years, Winborne has covered the red-carpets events for “Extra”, “Access Hollywood” and “E! News.”

In addition to executive producer Earnest Winborne, the show’s co-hosts include Janora McDuffie and Kendell Hogan. News correspondents include Mark Noble, and features reporter & associate producer Lawrencia Dandridge.

The NABJ Awards Gala will take place today, Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando.  The black-tie event takes place in conjunction with the 2013 NABJ Convention and Career Fair, the nation’s largest gathering of black journalists in print, broadcast, online and photojournalism.
