The historic night club, Jewels Catch One was the site of a town hall meeting, sponsored by “In The Meantime Men’s Group” (ITMT), to raise awareness and search for solutions to a complicated issue; how to reduce the HIV infection rates by 50% in Los Angeles County. The town hall was part of ITMT’s ongoing “Brothers Reaching Brothers” series. Mario Perez, Director of the Los Angeles County Division of HIV & STD Programs, was honored for his commitment and advocacy.
The first portion of the discussion was on how to keep black gay and bisexual men from testing positive for the HIV virus. Other issues discussed were: How to encourage black gay and bisexual men to get tested for HIV? How to get them to follow-up on their tests? How to get them to see a doctor, and how to get them to continue their treatment? The ideas were documented and some of the suggestions will be implemented during the 2012 calendar year.
Here are some of the highlights of the town hall meeting.
