What would Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show have to say if Rudy or Theo came out of the closet?  Well, in an all-new edition of NoMoreDownLow.TV, correspondent Mark Noble catches up with Phylicia Rashad and Colin Powell and asks how we should combat homophobia here and abroad.

Speaking about homophobia in Africa, Colin Powell says, “We can give a message to the world that human rights are important everywhere in the world and are part of American foreign policy.”

Colin Powell on Ending Homophobia

To end homophobia, The Cosby Show mom Phylicia Rashad says, “Mothers need to advocate for the rights of gay babies. Mothers need to advocate for the rights of gay babies.  Isn’t that something?”

In addition to honoring LGBT rights activist David Kato, the first segment looks at fighting homophobia throughout Africa through films featured at the Pan African Film Festival; Tyler Perry talks about America’s obsession with black men in drag; she’s funny, fierce and openly lesbian, stand up comedienne Gloria Bigelow; plus, our “Straight Talk” segment introduces the real-life Precious – a straight black woman living with HIV.

I don’t have anything against “Children of God” film, but let’s be CLEAR that the term Same Gender Loving or SGL is expressly implied for Black-on-Black male love or Black-on-Black female love of the African Diaspora. Created for US and by US; and US meaning people of African descent.

With that said and in that context, “Children of God” is NOT an SGL film.

Although these are all constructs, too many times folks are confusing the “same gender loving (SGL)” with “gay”; they are NOT the same and have different ideologies.
