Can Russell Simmons, Whoopi Goldberg and Arthur Ashe’s widow, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, start a bigger shift in the marriage equality debate with straight Black America? Today’s Washington Post takes a look at the recent marriage equality campaign in New York and wonders if it’ll have an even broader impact in other states and with African Americans, in particular.
In the HRC produced “New Yorkers for Marriage Equality” video, Russell says he is “a longtime supporter of marriage equality.” He also urges viewers to “Make your voice heard. Stand up now for marriage equality.”
The article goes on to wonder if maybe Russell Simmons, Whoopi Goldberg and Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, will have an influence on African Americans in Maryland, more specifically those in the General Assembly slated to vote on a marriage equality bill this week.
